Yelverton Bohemians II XI 162-6;

Kingsbridge (18 points)

beat Yelverton (eight points) by 88 runs

What a difference a week makes.

The sun was shining, so Kings won the toss and chose to bat in their home match against Yelverton.

John Hardy and Clive Clark fell early, so yet again Steve Inch, with new bat in tow, made inroads, scoring quickly along with Mark Edmonds.

With some poor bowling the score was moving along nicely before Edmonds fell on 28. At the half way point Inch and Dan Hardy had the score 102-3. Inch reach his third 50 on the trot and pushed on till the 30th over before being caught for a well-earned 80 in 92 balls.

Hardy fell on 38 and this brought Ed Church in after six weeks out from league cricket due to an ankle injury. He scored 18 before being dismissed, leaving Chandler and Perky to finish the innings off, seeing Kings to a total of 250-9 after 40 overs.

After tea Kings bowled well, but not well enough to bowl Yelverton out.

The two openers fell early and the number three was trapped LBW, Hammett with one wicket and Edmonds with two. With the score 32-3 and with no way of winning the game, the Yelverton skipper and vice skipper just defended everything bowled at them.

Bowling was changed around to try and pick the wickets up and finally the breakthrough was made, Inch picking up two wickets in two balls, one more wicket fell with Yelverton finishing 163-6.

Kings picked up 18 points for this result, still 35 points ahead of Plymouth with four games left.

A minimum of eight points this Saturday away against Shaldon will see Kingsbridge champions of the league again.
