Five of South Brent Judo Club’s high grades attended the Edinburgh International Sportif, a high-level competition and training camp.
More than 500 judoka from 14 nations attended the prestigious event and enjoyed learning from each other. Adam Vosper, Josh Shipp, Pierre Michelin, Cerys Callard and Scarlet Hodge were proud to represent the Western Area Team.
Saturday was the competition day. First on the mat was Adam Vosper (U42kg), who won three fights decisively to reach the final. Adam and his opponent were very evenly matched and the bout lasted an epic seven minutes, with Adam being the eventual winner. Next was Josh Shipp (U38kg) with a group of 14. Josh fought with panache and won all four fights to claim gold.
Cerys Callard (U40kg) and Pierre Michelin (U66kg) both won bronze after some tough fights. Scarlet Hodge (U48kg) fought well and finished just outside the medals.
The SBJC judoka attended the arduous training camp and benefited from the expertise of coaches from across Europe, including Euan Burton, the Scottish Olympian and 2014 Commonwealth gold medallist.
