Nigel Blenkarne, our head professional and director of golf, has taken up a new challenge by teaching an international athlete from another sport to play golf.

Brooke Graddon, who is an international high board diver and the daughter of Dave and Karen, who are Bigbury members and avid golfers, has never had the time or inclination to try golf as she has been training on a daily basis since she was seven years old.

However, having turned her attention to golf, the challenge is for Nigel and Brooke to work together to see what standard can be achieved.

The club is certain that if Brooke applies the same dedication and desire to succeed she showed in her diving career, it should have a new talent in the future and the club wishes her every success in her endeavour.

Congratulations to Amanda Burchell, who has won a Silver Rose Spoon Award from EWGA for the best stroke play card returned by clubs nationwide. Having joined Bigbury this year her handicap has come down from 27 to 17, which is a tremendous achievement.

61 men turned out for the Coronation Trophy, which is a medal competition over 18 holes, and in benign conditions scoring was particularly low. The winner was Stuart Fulton with a gross 73 net 64 which saw his handicap fall by two shots from 9 to 7. Second was Peter Hamon gross 79 net 68 and third was Terry Horswill, a new member, with a net 69 on countback from John Hailley.

The ladies' section held a closed competition in two divisions, silver for ladies with a handicap of below 20 and bronze for ladies with a handicap of 20 and above.

In the silver division the lowest gross was Amy McSweeny with 81, best net Karen Graddon with 73 and runner-up Amy McSweeny with 76.

The best front nine was from Julie Leach with 35.5 and best back nine was by Karen Graddon with 34.

In the bronze division the lowest gross was Jan Lucas with 103, the best net Trish Davis 79 from Emily Clark with 80. The best front nine was Marlene Johnson with 39.5 and best back nine Emily Clark with 36.5.
