A new festival rooted in the soil of South Devon is set to bring together authors, storytellers, musicians, farmers and nature lovers for four days of celebration, learning and community. For The Love Of The Land takes place at Village Farm, East Portlemouth, Salcombe from July 16-19, with the main festival day on Saturday July 18.
Set on a working organic livestock farm framed by the Salcombe estuary, Village Farm provides a uniquely evocative backdrop. The farm is home to a café, restaurant, farm shop and a community of resident artisan craftspeople, and for four days in July, it will also host a festival unlike any other in the region.

Across the four days, visitors can expect a rich and wide-ranging programme drawing on literature, the land and the deep culture and traditions of rural life. Highlights include talks from well-known authors, panel discussions, and nature and bushcraft workshops for both adults and children. Farm walks will give festival-goers a rare chance to connect with the working rhythms of an organic farm, while demonstrations and artisan activities reflect the breadth of traditional country skills.
Evenings promise something equally special: a Cèilidh dance with hot-pot supper, a film night accompanied by Devon bakes, a feasting night, a barbecue, and live music from Devon bands. The festival will be held in field marquees, the artisan centre and across the farm itself.
Celebrating the Living Landscape

Festival-goers are invited to join in celebrating “the people who have lived, loved and laboured on this land - through poems, songs, stories and music” and to become part of what the organisers describe as "the living and evolving heart of this festival.
‘Conservation, country lore, heritage, sustainable farming and keeping traditions alive!’
