The Flavel is reaching out to youngsters in Dartmouth and surrounding areas to let them know about our Youth Drama Group and our NEW Youth Choir. At a time when many young people can feel under pressure from schoolwork, social media or peer-groups, safe and supportive environments where you can be yourself, and express yourself, matter more than ever.

Our drama group is for young people aged from 7 to 18, run by award-winning theatre practitioner Rachel Swain. Dramatically Different Dartmouth (DDD) is a space to help children escape the pressures, relax, laugh and simply enjoy being themselves. Although the classes are themed and taught through the performing arts of physical theatre, improv and scripted work, the real heart and meaning of the classes are confidence and connection. Children and teenagers are encouraged to express themselves while also learning to trust themselves and others. The drama group costs £95 per term, and this cost can be significantly reduced for eligible Dartmouth families via our bursary scheme.

Our new choir, Young Dart Voices, couldn’t have come at a better time for Dartmouth. Open to young people aged from 10 to 19, the choir creates a truly inclusive space. Thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund and fundraising by our Trustees, we have removed the financial barriers so that the choir is completely FREE to attend. At a time when many families are experiencing the pressure of rising costs, The Flavel offers a wonderful route to supporting creativity and confidence in our young people.
Singing in a choir is more than just a hobby. Research has shown that group singing increases positive emotions, reduces anxiety and enhances well-being: having a supportive place to feel creative and free can make a real difference. Find out more: www.theflavel.org.uk
