Bigbury Golf Club Opens Its Doors to More Women and Juniors

Golf courses can sometimes seem intimidating, but Bigbury Golf Club is working to change that perception by encouraging more women and juniors to discover the sport.
Following a successful 2025 initiative introducing the Kingsbridge & Salcombe ladies’ hockey team to golf, Bigbury has developed a beginner pathway offering affordable memberships in a friendly and welcoming environment. The aim is to make taking up golf as simple and accessible as possible, whether you are completely new to the game or looking to return after a few years away.
The club has also become the only golf club in the South West of England to achieve Pioneer Club status, working alongside England Golf to help grow the game among women.
With a supportive membership and relaxed atmosphere, Bigbury is proving that golf doesn’t have to be daunting. Whether you’re an experienced player or picking up a club for the first time, the emphasis is on giving it a go, meeting new people and enjoying the experience. Even if the golf doesn’t quite go to plan, the social side and stunning views across the course make it easy to enjoy a round.
The club is also looking to the future with the exciting addition of a state-of-the-art Swing Studio. The new facility means Bigbury can continue to welcome and develop golfers throughout the year - even when the South Hams weather has other ideas!
Bigbury’s message is simple: you don’t need to be a golfer to join in. You just need to be willing to give it a go.

Give Rugby a Try – Dartmouth RFC Welcomes the Community

Dartmouth RFC is inviting local families and adults to get active, try something new and become part of a friendly, community-focused club.
At the heart of the club is its commitment to grassroots sport. Getting outside, learning new skills, making friends and enjoying being part of a team.
Kids rugby is a particular focus, with sessions every Sunday morning at Coronation Park. Children aged 5–11 can join from 10am, while a Tots introduction for 3–4 year-olds starts at 11am.
The sessions provide a friendly, relaxed environment where youngsters can learn the basics of rugby, build confidence and, most importantly, have fun. Parents say Dartmouth junior rugby welcomes every child — one mum describes her son with additional needs as thriving, and growing in confident and resilient. From age upwards, families praise the patient coaches, new friendships and a wonderful club community.
Rugby doesn’t have to mean running around a pitch. Walking rugby takes place every Thursday at 5.30pm on Norton Field, offering a slower-paced and accessible way to stay active, meet new people and enjoy the social side of the game without the need for sprinting or tackling.
For those looking for a more traditional rugby experience, the Dartmouth RFC men’s team trains every Thursday at 7pm on Norton Field, by the leisure centre. New players are always welcome, whether they have played before, are returning after a break or have never picked up a rugby ball.
Dartmouth RFC’s volunteers are keen to make the club about more than sport. It’s about bringing people together and helping keep the local community active, connected and having fun.
Whether you’re looking for a new activity for your children, want to try walking rugby, or simply fancy giving rugby a go, Dartmouth RFC would love to welcome you.

Get involved in football with the East Allington Pirates

East Allington United was formed as we know it in 1953 and introduced a reserve team in 1999. We currently run two teams in the South Devon Football League. The First Team in the Premier Division and the Reserves in Division Two.
Nicknamed ‘The Pirates’ we play at Poole Lane in the Village and have been at our current ground for 10 years and would like to thank the owners for allowing us to lease it.
We are currently looking for new players in all positions to bolster numbers at the club, whether you are an experienced player, youngster wanting to get into adult football or looking for a new challenge, we offer a welcoming club environment, with a great group of lads on and off the pitch.
If you are interested in joining a friendly, well run and ambitious club. Please contact us on [email protected] or via our social media pages on Facebook, Instagram or X.
We train once a week and play matches on Saturday afternoons with excellent after match hospitality from the local village pub The Fortescue Arms. We also have the bonus of our home games being filmed, so you can rewatch your goals or howlers!
We can’t thank enough the local businesses, sponsors and supporters enough for their generosity over the years that allows the lads to look smart in their kits and match day clothing and has allowed us to put in new changing rooms.
Despite being a small village club, we have had our fair share of success since winning our first trophy in 1996. Both our First Team and Reserves have won numerous leagues and cups over the years. The most prestigious being winning the Herald Cup back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.
