Dartmouth Town Council responded positively to a request to put the Woofstock UK dog festival on the agenda for the full council meeting tonight but then reversed its decision without any explanation.

Woofstock UK organisers Heather Nesbitt and Carol Bevan, who have applied to South Hams District Council to hold Woofstock UK 2108 on Coronation Park, wrote to the town clerk to ask if the council would give its backing to the event.

Although owned by South Hams District Council, Coronation Park is part of a package of property held by SHDC that may be transferred to Dartmouth. SHDC had sought the opinion of the town council in relation to its letting of Coronation Park for the Woofstock UK dog festival held in August.

The town council’s opposition to Woofstock UK 2017, was a disappointment to its organisers and, despite the success of the event, organisers Ms Nesbitt and Ms Bevan have been seeking clarification of a rumoured change in the council’s view before committing the event to Dartmouth in future.

The response from the council was initially that it would be considered as an agenda item at tonight’s meeting but later, following a discussion with the mayor, it was moved to ‘correspondence’ and is not an agenda item in its own right.The town clerk and the mayor have been for an explanation by the Chronicle

The meeting starts at 7pm in the Guildhall. Fifteen minutes is allowed for public questions.
