Woodlands wants help to name new foal
Woodland's theme park near Dartmouth has just welcomed a surprise visitor – a Shetland pony foal born less than a fortnight ago. And now the park is running a competition to name the new arrival. Mother Tinker, a Shetland pony, is 14 years old, and father Freddie, a miniature Shetland, who is nine years old, only arrived at Woodlands on Monday, May 12. Just two days later the colt was born and Woodlands is running a competition on its Facebook page to find him a name. Woodlands head keeper Michaela Newland said: 'Their owners were moving home and were unable to take them with them. 'They approached our veterinary clinic which asked if we could help them. 'We were delighted to offer Tinker and Freddie a home, they are beautiful ponies. When we were asked to help we were told that Tinker was in foal but we didn't realise she was due quite so soon.' She added: 'It was a lovely surprise when we got to work, we weren't expecting the foal to arrive so quickly after coming to Woodlands. All three are doing very well and are enjoying the beautiful sunshine. He is very chilled out and has spent a lot of time sunbathing in his paddock. He is extremely popular with all our guests.' The new foal and his parents can be seen at the Woodlands Zoo-Farm along with a baby porcupine which arrived a few weeks ago.
