Good to see local democracy is alive and well in the South Hams.
Your report on the wind turbine at Chivelstone Barn made very interesting reading.
Despite 40 letters objecting to this and only 20 in support; despite concerns expressed by the South Devon AONB unit and the council's landscape officer, the planning committee gave its approval.
This now gives a green light for all farmers in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to erect wind turbines and ignore local wishes.
How many more will now spring up in the next 10 years, given this decision by our elected representatives?
Please don't insult our intelligence that this and other schemes are going to 'save the planet', farmers put up wind turbines, understandably, to save energy costs and help their incomes in difficult times and if they can get away with this in an AONB then they will.
I support farmers in their attempt to stay in business but there must be other ways to do this than spoiling our beautiful countryside.
