MICHAEL TANN, of Derby Road, Kingsbridge, writes: I was delighted to hear that regular weekly boot fairs are likely to be returning to the Kingsbridge Quay. Four or five years ago there were boot sales every Sunday , from about Easter until September, except during fair week. There were always a few 'professionals' but the majority were locals selling everything from home-grown vegetables to the contents of their attics. This is surely the type of community project which should be given maximum encouragement. If my understanding is correct, our local tourist office will be taking over the general management of the fairs already scheduled for the remainder of the year. Look out for their adverts; empty your attics or just go to see what's on offer. As a 'local' living within sight of that part of the car park used for the displays, I could never understand why the district council restricted these fairs on the argument that they were 'reducing income from parking fees'. I certainly never saw an overflowing car park and, when it was occasionally fairly full, that was almost certainly due to people visiting the fairs.
