Cllr Michael Hicks, deputy leader and executive member for planning, economy and community, of South Hams Council, writes: I am pleased to see the debate about planning is continuing in your newspaper. It proves to me that people are as engaged by it as ever. We are listening to the feedback and carefully considering the points being made. With this in mind, I thought it might be helpful to share with you our plans to make our committee meetings even more accessible and easy to follow. As part of the Council's reorganisation, we are looking at cost effective ways of redesigning the council chamber so that members of the public can get a better view of the proceedings. We are also upgrading our sound system and introducing electronic voting. We genuinely want to make the democratic process as transparent as possible. However, I do find it disappointing that some of your correspondents, while making some relevant points, sometimes make personal criticisms in an unpleasant manner. This can be counter-productive. Please do keep your comments coming. We are intent on improvement and welcome constructive suggestions from our customers' perspective.
