PAUL BRETHRICK of Duncombe Street, Kingsbridge, writes:

As members of a nation with a rather brittle low-productivity economy, a shortage of teachers in a struggling education system, a dearth of skilled labour, engineers etc, and major problems with our NHS, one can only marvel at the unreality and misplaced optimism of you Brexiteers – so keen to take a major leap into the dark, despite warnings from a multitude of experts and authorities, both home and abroad, about the negative consequences of leaving the EU.

And consider the cost and uncertainty of protracted re-negotiations with unsympathetic European officials; all decisions having to be agreed by each member state.

Far better in these uncertain times – Isis, Putin, Trump the Chump, and a global economic downturn – to sit down at the decision making table with our European neighbours, rectifying the undoubted imperfections in the EU.

Long gone are the days when we as a nation can stand alone; the more international, and particularly European, pals we have the better.

Are you really happy to put your trust in the blonded gaffe-prone comedian/chameleon Boris, Nige the mouth and the rest of the clueless coterie?

Immigrants? Their new transatlantic mate Donald would certainly be happy to advise: anti-Mexican style walls or just shoot ’em?
