“We could have taken the business in many directions when starting The Plastic Company but there were certain core principles we simply would not compromise – the products had to be sustainable; made in the UK; and contribute positively to, rather than damage, the environment.”
A laudable ethos for any business venture but would you expect otherwise from last year’s winners in the 16-24 Entrepreneur category of the YABAAs (the annual Youth and Business Achievement Awards run by the Kingsbridge based 16-24 Work Club). Of course not, because Elliott and Guy are shining examples of the new generation of business owners putting principles before profit, investing not only in their own, but all our, futures, and, unsurprisingly, they are amongst the sponsors of this years’ YABBAs.
So, which direction did they go in? One which was carefully researched to ensure that it did fulfil an expressed need, sustainably; offering products manufactured to the highest standard, in the UK; with impeccable guarantees ranging from 15 years to lifetime; and where the very great majority of the range is made from 100% recycled waste – and UK waste at that!
As Elliott explained, “There are over 1800 products in the range so, understandably, we can only display a sample selection in the showroom itself although we do hold extensive stock for immediate supply. However the full range can be seen on our website - www.theplasticcompany.co.uk – and dependant upon the items selected can usually be supplied ex manufacturer’s stock in 5 days. Not only is there the huge choice of 100% recycled plastic products, but in addition we can also offer some composite products with a material makeup of 60% recycled wood fibres : 40% recycled high density plastic.”
And how does this benefit us? With products designed for outdoor living which will continue to look good year on year, whatever the weather, with minimal or no maintenance. UV protected so they won’t rot; a palette of colour options to suit all environments; and as hard wearing as you could possibly want.
Whether for your garden or play areas; commercial or public open spaces; home improvements or landscaping, what The Plastic Company is offering has to be the way forward. “Whilst the initial outlay may be slightly more expensive on a straight cost comparison, once you have made that purchase you can forget about the cost of annual care and treatments and you won’t need to replace it – factor that in and the product pays for itself.”
One area where The Plastic Company’s products really come into their own is decking and who wouldn’t want to avoid the hassle of scrubbing those down to avoid the dangers of slimy surfaces and the less-than-attractive green coating? Why not pop into the showroom and find out how you can make your life easier and your leisure time more enjoyable…
“We are a local family business, with a young team; all with local connections and keen to be involved with community initiatives. We have already worked with Thurlestone Primary School on a project, and were delighted to be able to support the fantastic work undertaken by the Kingsbridge in Bloom volunteers. Our roots are here, and so is our future.”
With The Plastic Company, waste has never looked so good!
