A man arrested on suspicion of murder in Dartmouth is to be held in custody for longer after detectives obtained a warrant of further detention.
Police and paramedics were called following reports of a serious disturbance at a property in Newcomen Road at around 9.20pm on Tuesday, October 6.
A 46-year-old woman died at the scene and a man in his 40s is being treated in hospital for facial injuries.
A local man in his 30s – a British national – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
A warrant of further detention for up to 36 hours was granted at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 8.
When a warrant of further detention is granted, police can keep suspects in custody for longer after their arrest before charging or releasing them.
Police are continuing to reassure the local community it is an isolated incident and no motive has yet been established.
Road closures have been lifted in the local area but a scene guard will remain in place at the property for some time while forensic examinations continue.
Officers are continuing to gather CCTV and make enquiries and are still appealing to the public for any information or footage that could help with the investigation.
