PETER JOHNSON, of Church Street, Modbury, writes: Why oh why do so many second-home owners in this beautiful part of our countryside immediately attempt to turn their new characterful properties into replicas of their homes in suburbia and their gardens into concrete paths? So many lovely trees have been removed to accommodate these concrete jungles. An example can be seen in New Quay Lane, Bigbury, where a once beautiful and large wooded garden has been desecrated without any thought to the habitat of local wildlife. We would always welcome people who put something back into the locality and support the local shops instead of ordering deliveries from Tesco, Sainsbury's or Waitrose. I have even heard of one new 'part-time' resident who instead of employing local builders and decorators brought in Polish workers from their home locality to refurbish an already immaculate property. In closing, can anyone tell me why people move to the coast when they are worried or offended by those natural seaside dwellers the seagulls?
