CAR club members have donated £6,500 to St Luke's Hospice.

Devon Vintage Car Club gave a total of £3,000 to the hospice at a display of vintage and classic cars at Erme Court, Ivybridge last Saturday.

And, in addition, DVCC members Drs Mike and Ann Oakins presented a cheque to St Luke's for £3,500.

This money had been raised from their Land's End to John o' Groats drive in their home-built Leige kit car, which is based on the Reliant Robin.

There were 14 cars displayed including a 1920s Morris Oxford, a number of 1930s Austin 7s, a Swift, a 1947 Standard Flying 8 and a 1952 Standard Vanguard. Ivybridge mayor Cllr Trevor Parsons attended the event.

Wayne Marshall, representating St Luke's, thanked the club and Drs Oakins for their donation.

DVCC president John Friend said: 'The club appreciates the dedicated work carried out by St Luke's and the caring support given by its staff and volunteers.

'The charity chosen by DVCC for its 2012 donation is Cruse Bereavement Care – Devon Region.

'We look forward to successful fund raising at our Hatherleigh Autojumbles in 2012, and at other events throughout next year.'
