QUIZMASTER Mike Jones handed over a cheque for £1,761.75 to the Hope Cove Lifeboat on Tuesday after a year of quizzing and fundraising.
Mike has produced and presented the quiz at the Village Inn in Thurlestone every week out of the holiday season for the last two decades and Tuesday was their last quiz before the summer break.
He said: ’I would like to say thank you to all the teams for the support they give in making sure we continue, some of whom have been coming for the 20 years I’ve been preparing and presenting them.
’It’s nice to know that the money will go towards training young, new members to continue Hope Cove Lifeboat’s good work.’
Also there to hand the cheque over was Scott Woodall, manager of the Village Inn. ’We are so pleased to be able to support such a vital local charity’ said Scott. ’Our Quiz Night runs every Tuesday out of season and the teams come back week after week to support good causes and stretch their brains.
’Thank you to all who helped us raise such a fantastic amount’.
Graham Philips, who accepted the cheque on behalf of Hope Cove Lifeboat, of which he is chair, said: ‘We’re always humbled by the amount of local support for Hope Cove Life Boat. ‘We’re particularly grateful to the Village Inn at Thurlestone, and the quizzes organised by Mike Jones for this huge amount of money, which will mainly be used for training younger members of the crew to preserve the longevity of the boat.’
