TWO Chillington residents are due to celebrate their 60 Wedding Anniversary next Saturday after marrying in Launceston.

Valerie and Jack Couch were married in St Mary’s Church, Launceston, Cornwall, on August 6, 1956, followed by a reception in the church hall. ‘We had sandwiches and sausage rolls’, said Valerie, ‘and a friend made us a three-tier wedding cake’.

The couple moved into a farm cottage in Trebullett before moving to Launceston, then Kingsbridge in 1963 and settled in Chillington in 1984 where they still live.

Valerie was an Auxiliary nurse for 29 years, starting in maternity and eventually working at South Hams Hospital in Kingsbridge for 18 years, while Jack was an agricultural engineer.

The couple have three children: Nigel, Julie and Joanna, eight grandchildren: Daniel, David, Phillip, Tristan, Tiffany, Robert, Kieron and James and eight great-grandchildren: Freya, Freddie, Teddy, Max, Charlie, Leo, Asia and Roisin Una, with two more due in August.

The couple gave their advice for a long and happy marriage as ‘give and take, share everything and be honest, it doesn’t pay to hide things’.

Great advice - Happy anniversary Valerie and Jack!
