It is easier to break a link in a chain than rebuild it when it all starts to fall apart.

With a daughter in Scotland we have kept in touch with opinion there, and it is certain they will vote to leave the UK if we leave Europe.

We also have friends in Estonia and Bulgaria who remember the communist years. David Cameron was so right to point out that Mr Putin would like us to vote to leave.

And finally, yes, there will be grey skies just around the corner, whichever way we choose, with some countries in financial troubles and the shock-waves from so-called IS, Syria, Afghanistan, North Africa etc.

Is that a reason to be the first to desert the ship? Thankfully we did not desert it in 1940.
