A benefit concert raised over £2,000 for acapella versions of pop songs and folk songs with a celtic harp.
Dartmouth Rock performed to a packed and very appreciative audience at the Flavel Arts Centre and raised a total of £2,019.
Their varied programme of acapella music included songs by Billy Joel, Queen, the Kinks and Snow Patrol, and a few seasonal songs, such as a barbershop arrangement of Jingle Bell Rock and a swing version of Winter Wonderland. A particular favourite with the audience was the Sam Smith song The Writing’s on the Wall, which featured in the last James Bond film, Spectre.
The evening also included an accomplished performance by 12-year-old Francesca Heard who enchanted the audience by singing four folk songs, accompanying herself on the Celtic harp.
The audience got their chance to participate, too, when choir leader Jean Judge got everyone singing a light-hearted Christmas song which involved splitting them into three sections, each with a different tune and words. Audience members said it had been a thoroughly enjoyable evening with a strong feeling of warmth and community.
