Keith Turner, of Sherford, near Kingsbridge, writes: A high-visibility turbine near you? The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty report dated September 10 on the South Hams Council planning portal cited a number of reasons why the development management committee was in breach of its own policies and guidelines in approving the Winslade Farm wind turbine application. The report also highlighted how visible the turbine will be to many Chillington residents. Some properties there already have a view of the farm buildings, which are below the skyline, so a 112ft-high turbine will be a very prominent feature. And it isn't just Chillington residents who will have a grandstand view, but also those in other elevated areas, in particular large areas of East and West Charleton. Looking further afield, people in many parts of Salcombe will be able to see the turbine. It is just not possible to conceal a 112ft-high structure with a large moving part on a prominent skyline. If you are wondering how much this turbine might be visible to you, take a look at the map on the district council's web link: http://www.southhams.gov">www.southhams.gov. uk/PlanningDocs/1/03/68/43/ 03684382.pdf. It's quite an eye-opener.
