WHILE most of us will be enjoying a traditional day of rest on Sunday, Paul Penrose and Huw Jones will be sweating it out in Finland for Great Britain.
The dynamic duo will be undertaking a gruelling 4,000-metre swim, 75-mile bike ride and 18-mile run in Tampere in the European Long Distance Triathlon.
Jones, 38, who lives in Ivybridge and 41-year-old Penrose, from Moorhaven near the town, are members of Plymouth Triathlon Club.
Penrose, a company director of Penrose Personnel, a recruitment agency, said: 'Both of us have been doing triathlon for approximately four years and have completed multiple ironman events before qualifying for the GB team.
'We are both extremely proud and excited to be racing for GB and this is the culmination of a couple hard years of training at this distance.'
He added: 'You always hope to represent your country as a youngster but, at our ages, we are delighted to have this chance that triathlon has given us. The Plymouth Tri Club is a great, friendly club and they really helped me to develop thanks to the excellent coaches and friendly club members.'
Penrose said both of them had sporting backgrounds; he is a keen footballer, while Jones enjoys mountain biking.
He said: 'Triathlon seemed to be the next challenge.'
Plymouth Tri Club are organising a free adult novice aquathlon, which is a 400m swim and 5k run, on Sunday, September 25 at Central Park. The club are also doing a 'Try a Tri' for juniors.
These are both novice events and all newcomers are welcome.
The Plymouth Triathlon Club will be giving four free training sessions to help you achieve your goals.
All ages and abilities welcomed, but these are primarily aimed at newcomers to the event.
