IT was raining shards of glass after a family mini tornadoes hit the South Hams.

People stopped in amazement as, following a fierce hail storm, one of three reported tornadoes caused destruction in the centre of Kingsbridge on Monday.

Police and fire crews were called to Bridge Street at around 12.40pm, after witnesses saw a mini tornado rip out a skylight window from the roof of the Quay pub.

Police had to cordon off Bridge Street after large shards of glass and debris from the Quay pub skylight fell onto the street, parked cars and narrowly missed passers by.
