KINGSBRIDGE gymnasts and dancers showcased their skills while the community colleges house teams went head to head in a dance off.

The Kingsbridge Community College House Dance Competition culminated in the annual Gym and Dance Show. Held on Valentine's Day, the main hall at KCC was filled with an enthusiastic and appreciative audience of students and their families.

The first half was a mix of stunning street dance and gym displays building up to the House Dance Crew 'Dance Off' where the six Houses performed the routines they had devised and rehearsed in a high energy medley. The enthusiasm and energy of each performance was contagious and the audience went into the interval wondering which House Dance Crew would triumph.

Valentine's inspired drinks and heart shaped biscuits were on offer before the start of the second half which opened with contemporary dance performed by SpinDrift Youth Dance Company.

Throughout the evening the eight solo scholarship dancers and gymnasts were also given the opportunity to perform and showcased the incredible talent and diverse styles of the individual students.

Suzie West, head of dance, said: 'There was an amazing atmosphere. A huge thank you to everyone who supported and attended the event. I am so proud of the talent, commitment and professionalism of all the students. Over 150 students have been involved in the evening including our very young tech crew who did a great job managing sound and lighting. Eleven students also took on the role of House Dance Leaders, working with younger students to choreograph and rehearse their pieces and providing excellent role models.'

The evening closed with the results of the House Dance Competition, the overall winners were the Green House while Purple House took the first place in the House Dance Crews 'Dance Off'. Matt Bindon, Head of House presented the Green House dancers with a silver trophy while the Purple House Dance Crew received gold medals.

Principal Roger Pope said: 'Many congratulations to all the students who performed in the Gym and Dance Show. The standard of individual performance and teamwork was simply amazing.'
