Visitors and locals alike were welcomed by sunshine for a successful weekend of scarecrow character viewing over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

There were 43 scarecrows scattered around the village of Malborough for the Scarecrow Trail where many families spent time walking around trying to decipher which character was represented for the theme ‘Adventurer, Scientist or Explorer’.

The votes are in, and the winner of Best Scarecrow went to Mary Anning (No 32) by Jackie and Judy; Judge’s Favourite Scarecrow went to Amelia Earhart (No 42) by Jesse and Hayley Rutherford; and the Trailer’s Favourite was Jack Sparrow (No 24) by The 3 Bees.

Runners up for Best Scarecrow were Tintin (No 4) by the Royal Oak, Dr Brown (No 19) by Vicky Crow, and Marco Polo (No 29) by Patsy Dunton. The Judge’s Favourite runner up was Jack Sparrow by The 3 Bees.

The Trail Winners, who guessed 41 out of 43 entries correctly and with the best tie-breaker, were Joe and Harriet Brownlie. The Lucky Programme prize was won by Chris Gates of Kingsbridge.

Simply Soulful Yoga ran several yoga sessions on the Sunday and Monday, and donated all proceeds to the Scarecrow Trail. The Creation Station had a great turnout for the crafting session for the children on the Saturday, with all proceeds from that also donated to the Scarecrow Trail.

Approximately £1835 was made, which will be shared between the Malborough Village Hall and Playing Fields Association and the All Saints’ Church, Malborough.

The organisers send out a massive thanks to all the volunteers, those who donated prizes for the weekend, the businesses that supported the event, and to all the bakers who donated cakes to be served in the hall.
