After 30 years of service, retiring Cub Scout leader was awarded the Rotary Club of Dartmouth’s 2018 Community Award.

Cub Scout leader, Barry Probyn has gifted 30 years of service to the community. Each year the Rotary Club presents the award to a member of the Dartmouth community who has been an outstanding contributor to the life of the community either through an organisation they manage, or run, or through their own personal efforts standing out from the crowd and devoting their energy to enrich the lives of others.

Barry started off as Assistant Beaver Scout Leader back in 1988 and progressed up the ranks to help out with the cubs and the scouts. He became group leader 12 years ago.

After 30 years of service, Barry will shortly be retiring from the Dartmouth Scout Group. His warrant will finish at the AGM next month and he will continue with the the group for a few more moths as contact for the cub and scout activity.

His work has been instrumental, through organising a variety of activities for the youngsters. One prominent event Barry is proud of helping out at is the Town Criers’ Armada Cup which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year in July.

Barry helped the Town Crier, Peter Randall, to establish the Town Criers Competition and asked the cubs to volunteer as runners for the judges. This year the cubs will be away at camp but Barry will remain to help out.

Michael Freeman, Rotary President presented Barry with the cup while he congratulated and thanked him for his commitment to the community and particularly to the Dartmouth Scout Group.
