Jonathan Hawkins, Darmouth district and county councillor, writes: Last Wednesday I was kindly invited to attend the 10th anniversary concert to celebrate the opening of the Flavel. I would like to thank the trustees and volunteers for such an enjoyable evening. The Britannia Big Band was excellent and the best of Dartmouth was clearly on show. It was nice to see many of the old faces from those exciting days, when we were all fighting to persuade those doubters of what a success this centre would be. There were a number of the placards from those famous marches to South Hams from Steamer Quay. I remember well, waiting with Elizabeth Jarrold for their arrival. Thankfully South Hams finally said yes and, as they say, the rest is history. Let us hope that those doubters can now clearly see that when Dartmouth is given the opportunity to have first-class facilities we can look after them and they thrive. We were lucky that all those years ago a group of residents came together with a vision for Dartmouth and kept on fighting for their beliefs. A very big thank you. Here's to them and here's to the next 10 years.
