The Astro to Atlantic team had a send-off in style with their farewell party at The Crabshell Inn.

Held on Saturday, November 17, it was a chance for the team to thank everyone who has supported them with their journey in reaching the start line of the Talisker Atlantic Challenge, known as ‘The World’s Toughest Row’.

The team are so overwhelmed by the support of the local community and cannot thank everyone enough. The evening involved a free raffle, pizzas kindly provided by the Crabshell Inn and a slideshow of images of memories over the last 18 months.

The team fly to the start line on Friday, November 30, where they have 12 days preparations with their boat and equipment. They have various safety briefings, kit and equipment inspections and training sessions out of La Gomera Harbour, Canaries. 28 boats are due to set off on race start scheduled for December 12 - weather permitting.

You can follow the girls’ progress on the race tracker by downloading an app called ‘Yellow Brick’ which tracks their boat, known as Huntress, across the 3,000 miles of the Atlantic Ocean until they reach Antigua.

The app will provide information on the team’s position in the race, their speed, miles per day and their distance remaining and is updated every couple of hours – be warned it can be very addictive! The girls hope to reach Antigua towards the end of January aiming for a new British Record of under 40 days. Their chosen charity is The Devon Air Ambulance Trust and they hope to raise as much money as possible with donations during the crossing. To find out more please go to: www.astro-to-atlantic.co.uk
