A HOLIDAYMAKER has slammed the behaviour of a junior rugby team and its supervisors at a hotel in North Devon.
Nick Brackin, 69, from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, claimed juniors from Ivybridge Rugby Club ran around causing chaos at The Royal Hotel in Woolacombe on Saturday night while their supervisors were out.
The team is believed to be the under 14s who were playing a match at nearby Barnstaple on Sunday morning.
This week, the chairman of Ivybridge Rugby Club, Jim Burns, said there would be an investigation into the allegations, with any necessary disciplinary action taken. '
He said: 'We have a very strict disciplinary process and will deal with those responsible when we find out exactly what happened.'
The boys rooms were adjacent to Mr Brackin's who said he heard them jumping from balconies and running along the corridor.
Although upset that his weekend break was spoilt, Mr Brackin said he was more concerned that parents were una-ware of the risk to children's safety. He said: 'My wife Jacky and I were spending a three-day quiet weekend at The Royal Hotel in Woolacombe and the two adjacent rooms were occupied by junior members of Ivybridge Rugby Club.
'They appeared to be in their early teens and were accompanied by two male adults.
'At 12.15am the incessant noise from their rooms caused my wife to call the night porter, who attended immediately.
'He found that the boys were unsupervised and running riot between the two rooms.
'They were also jumping over balcony walls and continually knocking on each other's doors.
'The night porter requested that they be quiet, which didn't have much effect, and the noise continued until 1.45am.
'We discovered the next morning that their supervisors had returned to the reception area some time after 1.30am.
'We were of course disturbed by the noise but much more concerned about the unsupervised nature of young teenage boys. I wonder what the boys' parents would think?'
Hotel receptionist Don Duffield added that the hotel had received further complaints as the juniors were causing a disturbance to the public outside.
He said: 'A charity night walk was taking place in Woolacombe and as participants passed the window, the boys were shouting at them. The night porter made us aware of this situation and the walkers were very upset.
'We, of course, apologised to Mr and Mrs Brackin and any other guests affected.'
Jim Burns added: 'As a club we can only apologise for any distress caused and thank the gentleman concerned for bringing this to our attention.
'This is not the sort of behaviour that we ever want to associate with Ivybridge Rugby Club.
'Action will be brought against anyone that brings the club into disrepute. We have a very strict disciplinary process'.
