Irrespective of how South Hams district councillors voted on October 31, it is essential that the public can know how each councillor voted. They cannot be held to account otherwise.
Many local authority councils do record voting openly, but I understand the South Hams’ does not. Whether a hand goes up, or not, can be seen by residents who attend a council meeting, but a proper open and available record is vital for democratic accountability.
