A rowing club hopes to buy new a boat after being chosen as a cause for local funding by a supermarket.
Dart Gig Club has been chosen by the Co-op for their Community Fund. Every time Co-op members shop at the Co-op, 1% of what they spend on selected own-brand products and services goes to the Co-op Local Community Fund. Members of the Co-op can choose to give their 1% of the fund to the Dart Gig Club. This fund is open to Co-op members for the ten months to Saturday, October 27, 2018.
The Gig Club hopes to raise £26,000 for the new boat. A spokesman for the club said: “Our boats are not really competitive unless new. Many really competitive clubs change their boats every other year. Our boats are five years old and are heavier than the newer, light weight boats.
“Oars cost £300 each and there are six per boat. They last much longer than a boat and tend to be ok until broken. We’ve had two new sets of oars this year.
“The club has been doing really well, especially the mens section with all their extra training. We have a 100 members now in the club. The money is really only needed for the new boat. We have started raising it already but hope that the Co-op funding can help, as everything counts.
