PATRICIA MARKHAM, of Mount Pleasant Close, Kingsbridge, writes:

I am horrified to read that 261 women did not attend their appointments at the NHS mobile screening centre presently in Kingsbridge. How stupid.

In December 2008, I had asked for an appointment – being over 70 you are not recalled – and am very grateful that I did. A small lump was detected and, after tests etc at Derriford, I had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy in April 2009.

I am still clear of that awful disease and am very grateful.

I hate to think what the outcome might have been had I not asked for that appointment in 2008.
