CHILDREN and schools across Ivybridge all got involved for World Book Day last week.
This week staff and students at Ivybridge Community College have been taking part in a 'book week' after celebrating World Book Day last Thursday.
To launch the college's book week, teachers dressed up as their favourite literary characters, from Of Mice and Men's Lennie to The Three Musketeers' d'Artagnan.
Throughout the week students and staff were able to hear teachers read from their favourite books in the learning resources centre and around the college in the 'reading zones' during lunchtime periods.
Last week all staff and students dropped everything
for 15 minutes of reading to celebrate World Book Day.
Staff and children at Wood-lands Park Primary School also celebrated the day by dressing up as their favourite book characters.
During the morning the Foundation pupils had an opportunity to show their costumes to each other and explain which characters they were, before drawing and writing about themselves.
The school also held a 'Scholastic Book Fair', whereby the children could use their World Book Day vouchers to put towards buying a book.
Childminders across the town met in Ivybridge Library for an Aliens Love Underpants- themed morning.
Twelve childminders and their children joined in the story time and crafts with Sue and Emily as they listened to Aliens Love Underpants, Aliens in Underpants Save the World and a poem from the book Aliens Stole My Underpants.
They then made alien masks, coloured in aliens and had the option of taking part in other alien-based games.
Claire Saunders, from Claire's Childminding, said: 'The children all had a great time joining in with the activities and choosing some books to take back to the childminders' houses.
'The children were all given an Aliens Love Underpants sticker and Sarah gave out £1 vouchers for World Book Day. The children have coloured in an alien thank you card for Sue, Sarah and Emily for organising and carrying out everything this morning.
'We're looking forward to planning our next childminders story time in the near future.'
