Film fans sat under the stars overlooking the stunning Erme Estuary while being transported to 1950s Italy with The Talented Mr Ripley.
The 4GEE Community Cinema Club chose a field above Mothecombe Beach near Holbeton to showcase its superfast 4G, after recently rolling out the network to the area.
Visitors listened, through headphones, to the 4G-powered screening of the classic psychological thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The Talented Mr Ripley was nominated in seven categories at the British Academy Film Awards in 2000 and saw Jude Law pick up the BAFTA for best supporting actor.
The 4GEE Community Cinema Club has been travelling around the UK all summer, showcasing the 4G capability to communities connected to its network. Each of the communities visited, including Mothecombe, has been given a cinema kit to keep, containing a 4G WiFi device, a state-of-the-art connected projector, wireless speakers and a movie streaming voucher so they can continue to host outdoor movie nights throughout the year.
Max Taylor, of EE, said: ‘This year we celebrated the 20th year of our long-standing partnership with BAFTA and announced that our 4G coverage now stretches to more than 80 per cent of the UK geography.
‘The 4GEE Community Cinema Club is the perfect way to demonstrate the power of our 4G connectivity through film. Our superfast 4G network lets our customers stream the entertainment they love, wherever they are - even if that happens to be in a field overlooking a beach in Devon.’
