JANET STANLEY, of Frogmore, near Kingsbridge, writes:
Recently in Frogmore, outside the Globe Inn, a cyclist was seriously injured.
The accident happened between a car and the cyclist, in broad daylight.
The residents in Frogmore have spoken to the police at various parish council meetings about the speed of traffic coming through our village, however, the police are governed by an ass of law that states traffic officers using speed guns have to be visible to traffic.
Is it just me but what happened to speed traps? The very name tells you that in the past, speed control was not visible. Cars facing a police officer fully visible will slow down, so as not to be prosecuted.
Residents of Frogmore, know how fast the cars go through our village. As a pedestrian, I know that you can look both was and see no cars coming. By the time you are in the middle of the road, you are faced with a car heading towards you.
All drivers have speedometers in their cars. Is it that drivers do not care?
If something is not done and quickly, there will be more accidents on our road.
How many times have you been behind someone using a mobile phone or, even worse, seen a driver on the opposite side of the road using a mobile phone or, worse again, trying to read maps because they are lost.
These roads are too narrow to mess around while driving, because if you do, you cannot see what is on the road, for example a child, pensioner or cyclist trying to cross.
Our prayers and thoughts go out to the injured cyclist involved and his family.
Let's kill the speed in Frogmore, not innocent people.
I'm from Yorkshire and an old saying there was: 'You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.' Make of that motorists as you will.
