You can play detective in an imaginary murder mystery at Dartmouth Library on Saturday, September 26 from 5pm to 7pm. Popular crime-fiction writer, Kate Ellis, will present her own murder mystery, set at a village fete in 1946, with local amateur actors playing the parts.

At the end of the action the audience can vote on who is the likely culprit, with a prize for the first winning entry pulled out of the hat.

Tickets (cash only) are available from Dartmouth Community Bookshop at 9 Foss Street and cost £8 for adults, £4 for children (aged 12 to 18 with an accompanying adult) and include a glass of wine or a soft drink and nibbles.

Kate will also be signing copies of her books.


The event is run by Friends of Dartmouth Library to raise funds for refurbishing the Children’s Library. 


Kate Ellis said of the event: “I’m delighted to be back in Dartmouth and supporting its wonderful library which does so much to encourage young readers as well as providing a welcoming quiet space to inform and support older ones.”


Dartmouth Library is located within The Flavel, and Arts Centre.

The library offers a wide range of facilities to residents and visitors alike. Library staff are experienced and friendly, and enjoy recommending titles for visitors of all ages, as well as helping with computer use, including scanning, printing and photocopying.

The library runs several Book Clubs, including one for the visually impaired. There is also a lovely children’s section, where there are regular story and craft sessions.

There is a weekly Bounce & Rhyme session for Under-5's and a Baby Weigh facility on Tuesday mornings.

The library provides children’s events, book groups and events free public computers and WiFi, printing, copying and scanning facilities, self-service machines, a meeting room and the home library service.
