Dartmouth Art Society held their annual New Year party and members exhibition in Townstal Hall on Thursday, January 18. The social gathering gave all members a chance to show off their work, especially new members.
Two members, Rob Childs and Jenny Hansell, scooped seven prizes between them and won five of the seven sections. Rob Childs, won townscape and buildings, flora, and abstract, and was third in portraits and figures. Jenny Hansell, won both portraits and figures and was second in still life.
Members were allowed to enter one picture for each section and then everyone voted for the best in each section. There were eight sections: portraits and figures, animals, abstract, still life, flora, landscape and woodland, water and seascapes, and townscapes and buildings. Three prizes were awarded for each section.
In portraits and figures, first prize was awarded to Jenny Hansell; second prize to Juliet Collins and third prize went to Rob Childs.
In the animals section, first prize was awarded to Lynda Russell, second prize to Sheila Hipple and joint third prize, went to Ruth Pritchard and Caroline Wigley.
In the abstract section, first prize was awarded to Rob Childs, second prize to Jenny Dunn and joint third prize to Gwendolyn Alker and Jan Trevarrow.
In still life, first prize was awarded to Sheila Hipple, second prize to Jenny Hansell and joint third prize to Sue Tweed and Rosemary Boutle.
In flora, first place was awarded to Rob Childs, second prize to Jenny Dunn and third prize to Julliet Collins.
In the landscape and woodland section, first prize was awarded to Jan Trevorrow, second prize to Rosemary Boutle and third prize to Lesley Saffin.
In the water and seascapes section, first prize was awarded to Jenny Hansell, joint second prize, to Jane Elder and Lynda Russel and third prize to Jenny Dunn.
In the townscapes and buildings section, first prize was awarded to Rob Childs, second prize to Chris Ferris and third prize to Jan Dobbie.
A spokesman for the society said: “The members each contributed a plate of food and brought guests to join in the party. While the votes were being counted, a hilarious game of pictionary was played between two teams. The prize cups were then awarded to the winners of each section.”
