So that’s where the blighter hangs out!

I refer to Mr Willison’s reported concerns that the proposed Millwood Homes extended development (‘Villagers object to bid for 210 homes’, June 22) would endanger the habitats of several species, including a heron.

For two years I have conducting a losing battle against a grey heron, Ardea cinerea, which, despite multiple strands of fishing line arranged around and across my garden pond in accordance with the best advice, has cleared out three separate lots of goldfish – 16 in all.

The prospect of this avian monster being displaced to somewhere out of range of my fish-less pond has its attractions.

However, the more important issue of the continuing urbanisation of Dartmouth, in the manner of Brixham and Paignton, is most disturbing.

Such are the horns of a dilemma.
