Six crews fought a fire at a property in Ugborough near Ivybridge which broke out around 9am on Tuesday April 5.

Fire control received multiple calls and initially three fire engines from Buckfastleigh, Ivybridge and Ashburton were called in.

When they arrived they found the asbestos roof of the house was well alight and asked for an ariel platform ladder from Crownhill in Plymouth, one more engine from Newton Abbott, a water bowser from Plympton and a hazardous materials officer to attend to support the regular officer.

Crew then asked for a further two engines attend to help tackle the fire from Crownhill.

Crews got to work with six of them wearing breathing apparatus, five jets were used and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. A drone was sent up to help with the investigation.

The fire was put out by late afternoon and the property had suffered 50% fire damage and 50% smoke and heat damage.
