THE directors of this year’s successful Modbury show have paid tribute to the people of the town for their ‘great spirit’.
The run of three performances of ‘Oh What a Lovely Hall’ took place last week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Modbury Memorial Hall, and saw near sell-out audiences each night.
The production told the story of a village hall under threat from the evil Willy Grabbit, and the fight to save it. Featuring a big cast including hall owners, twins Witney and Britney, the loyal caretaker and his love Rowena, cheeky mice, an alien, dogs, including a real one, and Disney princesses, the show came about thanks to the hard work of many locals.
Sarah Wyatt directed and produced the show with Gill West. Andrea Kuhn and Jeremy Hibbard wrote the script, with Jo Highley in charge of music and Angie Tall’s choreography. Fiona Bennett dealt with props, Sally Taylor made costumes, and local artist John Ashcombe painted the set.
Sarah said: ‘It was a roaring success with lots of laughs, and we had great feedback from all the people that came – it was really well attended.
‘We get great support in Modbury, and it always helps with the energy of a show and gets us all performing well. There’s a great spirit here.’
