KINGSBRIDGE shoppers were shocked to see a car roll backwards down Fore Street on Monday afternoon and embed itself in the front window of Bella Borsa.
The car, a maroon Peugeot estate, was parked in the loading bay on Fore Street when its handbrake is thought to have failed, sending it down the hill and into the shop front.
Police were on scene in a matter of minutes.
No one was hurt in the incident, although Shani Basham, owner of Bella Borsa and currently on holiday in Spain, said her mum Sheena Ford was near the entrance when the car hit and was quite shaken by the experience.
Shani called it 'a shock' but said she was managing to sort everything out from Spain.
'Builders are in place, work starting soon, hopefully, we'll only be closed for a few days,' said Shani.
'Thankfully no-one was injured. My mum was pretty shaken up as she was near the door way when it happened, but everyone was great at rallying around.
'Police, fire crew, Richard Seal, Nigel Dalton, my solicitor from Bartons even came across to offer help and emailed us today.
'Glynis and Steve, my landlords, have been amazing. They managed to get the loss adjuster out to the shop on Tuesday.
'Also, the neighbours have been great. I hope it hasn't affected the couple in the flat upstairs.'
Kingsbridge fire crew was on hand shortly after the incident to remove the car from the shop with a hand winch.
