Local projects have been shortlisted for the Civil Engineering Awards 2018.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West has revealed that Torcross Sea Defences project has made it onto the shortlist.

After significant storm damage a £2.4 million project to repair the existing sea defence at Torcross was successfully completed by BMMJV and the Environment Agency, all within 14 months of the failure of the defences being identified.

The prestigious awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity around the South West. It offers a chance for projects and organisations from across the region to showcase the fantastic work that is taking place.

From small projects, refurbishment work through to large new build schemes, the awards will showcase the breadth of brilliant work civil engineers complete every year in the South West.

Miranda Housden, ICE South West Regional Director said: “Our Civil Engineering Awards recognise projects which promote the excellence of the engineering profession.

“The South West is full of innovative and inspiring projects and engineers, from a wide range of sectors and the shortlist for this year’s awards really showcases fantastic projects in amazing locations across the region.”

Other projects in the shortlist include the Colleton Mill River Diversion, Hulk Lane, Thorverton, Dawlish Warren and A39 Westaway Plain Junction Improvements, Barnstable.
