LUCINDA ELLIS, of Bigbury, Kingsbridge, writes:
I would like to make an appeal to Devon County Council and South Hams Council.
Our verges, one of Devon's most beautiful and important assets, are in peril.
The way our councils manage them is nothing short of vandalism: mowing them just as the wild flowers are coming into bloom, smothering them in uncollected cuttings and encouraging the growth of coarse and thuggish plants.
Our verges might just as well be strips of concrete instead of strips of beauty supporting wildlife, especially pollinators such as bees.
We mourn the loss of wildflower meadows, and now we mourn the loss of our equally important flowering verges.
As council tax payers, we deserve better care from both DCC and SHC.
