In saying that Sarah Wollaston’s vote against the Government’s Withdrawal Bill shows that she lacks political acumen, Brian Parker, Letters, January 26, displays a lack of understanding of our MP.

Sarah takes a principled view that such a hugely important matter as the terms of our departure from the European community should be debated and approved by Parliament.

As it happens, she believes, and I agree with her, that leaving the EU will be very damaging for the people, especially the young people, of our country, but her vote was prompted by he belief in the principle of parliamentary sovereignty.
