Two teams of five from Kingswear Rowing Club, in two Seine Boats, were set the challenge to race from a start line, just upstream from the Higher Ferry up river past Noss, Greenway Quay and around the Flat Owers mark midway between Dittisham and Galmpton and then, back to the finish line just above the Higher Ferry. This was their first Flat Owers Challenge.

The winning team of: Steve Ainsworth, Liz Canham, Anita Howard and Alexa Paddock with Sunil Merotra as their cox, completed the challenge in just 55 minutes and won by the narrow margin of just 2 feet. The winning team trailed throughout the race and were over 11 boat lengths behind at the half way mark but managed to claw their way back into contention.

Runners up were: Bob Furneaux, Kay Sowerby, Ken Howard, Gill Ainsworth and Jan Carter.

After the challenge, both teams, plus many members of Kingswear Rowing Club, headed back to their clubhouse to enjoy a late afternoon, early evening BBQ in glorious sunshine.
