Members of Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club took turns to man the stand at the entrance to Morrison’s in Kingsbridge on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th October collecting on behalf of the Marie Curie charity when, thanks to the incredible generosity of local shoppers, the splendid sum of £500.00 was raised.
Beverley Harman. Chair of the Club’s Community Committee explained, "Morrison’s had very kindly offered Marie Curie two charity collection days but they do not currently have an active volunteer group in the town so they approached the Club to see if our members could assist. We were delighted to step in and help as it is such an excellent cause and one which the Club has supported financially in the past."
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity. They provide frontline nursing and hospice care, a free support line and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement. Beverley added "So many of those who kindly gave donations had their own very personal stories to tell of how Marie Curie had helped them or their loved ones at the darkest of times and members found it very touching indeed that they chose to share such experiences with them. It really brought home what amazing work the charity does and made it all the more heartening that Rotary members were able to help them take advantage of Morrison’s kindness."
Since March 2020, Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club’s own fundraising activities have been heavily curtailed but in keeping with their ethos of supporting the community how best they can, they have been more than happy to offer practical support to local groups and organisations.
