KINGSBRIDGE will feature in Channel Four's Dispatches on Monday as the programme follows the Theaker family around the town as they return to cash.

Finance expert Harry Wallop investigates whether cutting up our credit cards and paying for everything in cash could leave us with more money in our pockets.

Alison Theaker and her family were filmed for five days for Dispatches as they ditched the cards and only used cash for two weeks. Alison said she, like many people, tends to pay for most things with a card and that her family had to set out a budget for the two weeks so that they could ensure they had enough cash.

The camera crew filmed the family as they shopped around Kingsbridge moving up and down Fore Street paying by cash. Alison said the family saved £70 over the two weeks by paying with cash, adding that one company charged her more for a service because she wasn't paying by direct debit.

Research for Channel 4 reveals families are realising the value of a 'return to cash, drawing more from cash machines than at any time in the last five years. But, it asks, 'is the move to a cashless society more about profits than the convenience of consumers?'

Dispatches Cash vs Cards is on at 8pm on Monday May 21, Channel 4.
