After their hard work, committed recyclers have been shortlisted for a Recycle Devon Thank You Award.

The waste collection team in Yealmpton are celebrating after being shortlisted for a Recycle Devon Thank You Award.

The awards, which are held annually at County Hall, Exeter, celebrate those in our community who go the extra mile to help people recycle. The crew have been nominated by the people of Yealmpton for their hard work in all weathers, and their helpful attitude.

Residents have said that the crews are particularly helpful to the elderly residents and often assist them with their garden waste.

The Recycle Devon Awards have been running for four years, and this is the first time a South Hams crew have been nominated for an award.

Cllr Keith Baldry, Ward Member for Newton and Yealmpton, said: “I’m delighted to hear that our hard-working crew have been recognised for their commitment to recycling; they really are providing a vital service. I’m extremely proud of the crew, as it’s the first time a South Hams crew have been nominated for an award like this, and shows that we really are delivering the best service for our customers.”

The crew will attend the award ceremony in March, where all shortlisted candidates will receive a glass trophy (recycled, of course) and the overall winner of each category will be announced.

In addition, all shortlisted candidates are included in a public vote for a People’s Choice Award. Members of the public can vote for their favourite shortlisted candidate via the Recycle Devon website, and the nominee with the most votes will be revealed on the award day.

Dan Thomas, Chairman of Yealmpton Parish Council, said: “I’m thrilled that the Yealmpton crew have been recognised for their hard work and regular kindnesses to our residents. We’re very lucky to have such a great team working in our parish. I hope everyone in Yealmpton gets online and votes for them!”

The voting for the People’s Choice Awards opens in January and voting forms will be online here.
