JOHN POLLEY of Warfleet, Dartmouth, writes:

For over a year I have suffered intermittent noise on my telephone. The party on the other end of the line can hear me clearly, but on a random 10 per cent of calls there is hash on the incoming sound, and I can hardly make out what the caller is saying.

In these cases the call is often disconnected after around a minute.

In view of the randomness of this problem, it seems to me that the fault must be on a common part of the system, not on the unique line to my home. I have explained this to my service provider and to BT, but they are unwilling to take any interest in resolving the problem.

BT has tested my line and found no fault. My service provider, which is owned by BT, tells me that the only thing it can do is ask BT to re-test the line; if no fault is found at the time of the test I would be liable for a hefty charge. Otherwise BT will take no action unless I can show that several others

are suffering from the same problem.

If any readers with Dartmouth lines are suffering from a similar problem, I would appreciate it if they would either write to me – PJ Polley, La Crevette, Warfleet, Dartmouth TQ6 9BZ – or email [email protected].

I will not be able to assist with individual cases, but will forward any replies to BT and ask them to do something about it.
