World Horse Welfare will be fundraising next week, with a life size model of a horse coming to Tescos in Kingsbridge.

The collection will take place on Wednesday, December 20, in the store foyer. If any animal lovers would like to help for an hour or two, please call Ceri Jayes on 01548 856252.

The charity works with horses, horse owners, communities, organisations and governments to help improve welfare standards and to stamp out suffering in the UK and worldwide.

The WHW charity which was originally called the International League Against the Export of Horses was renamed in 2008 to reflect the expanding commitments and aims of the charity.

Founded by Ada Cole, campaigning sits at the heart of this charity. Last year, WHW ran a successful campaign to make CCTV mandatory in horse slaughter houses which is to become mandatory in all abattoirs in England from next Spring.

This year, a key campaign is to bring an end to the long-distance transportation of horses across Europe for slaughter, which the charity hopes will be replaced with a carcass-only trade.
